It has been 24 years since I began my career at Birthcare.
After working for 10 years in the public hospital system, the move to Birthcare North Shore was such a positive progression. I finally felt I’d found a workplace that aligned with my personal, professional, and family values. BCNS was such a caring environment, and it was incredibly rewarding to make new mums feel nurtured and special. It was a sad day when, just two years later, government funding was withdrawn and the unit was forced to close.
As one door closed, another opened, and I was offered a position at Birthcare Parnell. Despite being a much larger unit – growing from 10 beds at North Shore to 45 at Parnell – it has continued to be a workplace that reflects my values. As a team, we are supported to do our best and provide meaningful, excellent care.
It’s been a rollercoaster journey navigating Birthcare’s changing landscape. I hold dear the feedback and thank-yous I’ve received from families over the years – including an unforgettable helicopter and dinner trip to Waiheke!
A true highlight has been working alongside and forming friendships with some of the most amazing women I know. They have inspired me both personally and professionally in so many ways. Birthcare has such a fantastic team, and I feel very grateful to be part of it.
Over these 24 years, I’ve grown both personally and professionally. With Birthcare’s support, I’ve completed my Bachelor of Health Science (upgrading from my diploma), gained my IBCLC qualification, and balanced raising three amazing sons.

I remain passionate about providing meaningful, whānau-centred care and am excited to continue this journey as Birthcare moves forward under Evolution’s guidance.
