Are you looking for an LMC?

In New Zealand, every pregnant woman is expected to choose a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) who will monitor and support them through their pregnancy, during labour and childbirth, and for up to 4–6 weeks after the birth.

Who can be an LMC?

A Midwife, Doctor (GP) Obstetrician or a team of hospital-based midwives can be an LMC.

You should choose an LMC who:

• Makes you feel comfortable and confident
• Is easy to talk to, and is genuinely interested in you and your baby and family
• You want to share this special time in your life with
• Will enable you to make informed choices about your maternity care
• Will respect and support the choices you make.
