Waitematā District Health Board Zone

Congratulations!

We are very excited to share your journey with you and your whanau.

For patients who live in the Waitematā DHB (WDHB) zone, Birthcare would like to extend you a warm welcome and would like to assist you in any way to help create precious memories of the beginning of your journey into parenthood.

Birthcare Auckland has an agreement with the WDHB for extra beds for when both hospitals (North Shore Hospital and Waitakere Hospital) are full.  Birthcare can take patients for up to two nights under this agreement.  Under this agreement, you will transfer to Birthcare with a letter signed off by the hospital Duty Manager.  Please note, without this letter, you will automatically be charged at the full rate as your postnatal stay will be unfunded.

Postnatal care at Birthcare consists of the following:

  • Establishing breastfeeding (Lactation Consultant)
  • Newborn Hearing Screening
  • Mothercraft
  • Support for parents
  • Clinical observations (e.g. blood tests, etc)
  • Physiotherapy
  • If there is any further clinical input required, we offer Paediatrician referral as well (in correspondence with your Lead Maternity Carer)

Patients have the option to upgrade to a private room or a premium room.  These will be subsidized for up to two nights if funded by WDHB.  Rates are as follows:

  • Private Room @ $475.00 per night
  • Premium Room @ $590.00 per night

If you wish to transfer to Birthcare of your own accord, please be advised that you will be charged at the full rate as follows:

  • Standard Shared Room @ $525.00 per night
  • Private Room @ $610.00 per night
  • Premium Room @ $715.00 per night

The Private and Premium room option allows your spouse/partner/support person to stay overnight with you.  They can order meals at a subsidized rate from our onsite kitchen.
